Actors, Extras and Event Staff

Generated illustrative film-set scene with two actors in period costume, supporting artists, a camera operator, a clapperboard and a crew member wearing a headset; not an actual agency production.

Looking for an actor for a video, extras for a film, a staged crowd or staff for an event? This page explains the different services and provides links to UK agencies. You can also explore opportunities to work as a supporting artist. Sixpence Support UK is free to use; agencies and hired professionals charge for their services.

Actors and presenters for hire

Actors and presenters may take speaking roles in adverts, corporate videos, training films, live events and scripted social content. Agree the script, relevant experience, audition or showreel, availability and recording rights before booking.

Extras and supporting artists

Extras and supporting artists are background performers for film, television, adverts and photographic shoots. Agencies may also offer walk-ons and stand-ins; ask which services are available for your production.

Background work is different from a speaking acting role. Confirm whether any dialogue, specific action or specialist skill is required.

Rent a crowd and staged audiences

Groups can be hired for filmed crowd scenes, rehearsals, staged events and productions. Ask agencies about numbers, locations, coordination and suitability for the intended scene or event.

Be transparent where a crowd is staged. Do not present hired participants as genuine customers, independent testimonials or public supporters.

Promotional and event staff

Depending on the provider, event teams may include registration staff, brand ambassadors, exhibition assistants, product sampling staff, costume performers and event hosts. Explain the duties and audience, and confirm the experience and supervision your event needs.

Before booking

  • Request a written quote including agency fees, travel, overtime, cancellation terms and VAT if applicable.
  • Confirm duties, hours, location, dress or costume, accessibility, break arrangements and supervision.
  • Agree image and voice usage, including where recordings will appear and the duration of social advertising use.
  • Discuss insurance and any special requirements directly with the provider.

Accessibility and inclusion

Discuss step-free access, accessible toilets, seating, breaks and support needs before accepting a booking. Confirm arrangements with the agency and venue so you know what will be available.

Sixpence Support UK provides information and links. We do not supply actors, recruit staff, arrange bookings or guarantee work. Contact each provider directly for current availability, charges and terms.
