Theatres Across the UK

Start with the UK Theatre directory for regional venues, ATG for its UK venues, and Official London Theatre for the West End and other London members. National Theatre and RSC pages include their own productions, venues and touring information.

National Theatre of Scotland makes and tours work rather than operating one permanent theatre. Capital Theatres lists productions at its Edinburgh venues. UK Theatre also lists Scottish member organisations.

Wales Millennium Centre lists performances at the national arts centre in Cardiff.Theatr Cymru provides information about the national English-language theatre company and its touring work. Hynt lists participating Welsh arts venues and explains its national access card scheme.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland provides information about the arts sector. The Grand Opera House Belfast and the Lyric Theatre Belfastpublish their own programmes and access information. UK Theatre also lists Northern Ireland members.

Some productions offer captioned, audio-described, British Sign Language interpreted or relaxed performances. The wording and arrangements vary, and these performances may run only on selected dates.

• Check step-free routes, wheelchair spaces, accessible toilets, hearing support and assistance-dog arrangements.
• Ask how to book a wheelchair space or seat transfer and whether mobility equipment can be stored safely.
• Read what a relaxed performance changes; sound, lighting, movement and leaving or returning arrangements are not identical everywhere.
• Some venues offer a free or reduced-price essential-companion ticket, but eligibility, evidence and booking methods differ.
• SOLT access information covers London theatre, while ATG access information covers its venues.

• Use the venue, producer or authorised ticket agent named by the production.
• Check the date, start time, venue, seat location, booking fees and delivery method before paying.
• Read age guidance and admission rules. Some shows set a minimum age, and latecomers may wait for a suitable admission point.
• Tell the venue about access needs before the visit and keep the booking confirmation.

Ticket terms matter. If a performance is cancelled or changed, contact the seller named on the booking. If you simply change your mind, a refund may not be available. Keep receipts and messages, and complain to the seller in writing before using any escalation route it provides.
